  1. Who are your parents? Tell the class their names, how old they are, what their jobs are, what they like to do for fun and whether or not you live with them.
  2. Do you think your parents are strict? If so, give the class an example of how your parents are strict? If not, why not?
  3. Research Time! Ask your mother or father if they thought their parents were strict when they were growing up. Give the class an example of why they were or weren’t strict. If you don’t want to ask your mother or father, you can ask someone else you know.
  4. Do you get along well with your parents? Why or why not?
  5. Do you get along well with the parents of any of your friends? If so, tell the class who they are and why you get along so well with them. If not, is there anyone you really don’t like for some reason?
  6. What qualities make a good parent? Why do you think so? Do your parents have these qualities?

  1. My parents’ names are Hiroyuki and Akiko. My father is thirty-nine years old and is a dentist. He likes fishing. My mother is thirty-seven and she is a homemaker. She likes to watch Korean dramas. My brother and I live with both of them.
  2. Yes, I do. My parents won’t let me have a video game console or a smartphone. They think I will waste too much time using them when I should be studying.
  3. My mother says that her parents were strict with her when she was going up. She had to do her homework and help around the house with chores every day. She wasn’t allowed to leave the house after dark until she was twenty years old.
  4. I guess so. My mother is really kind and my father is always happy to help me with my homework or drive me somewhere I need to go.
  5. My friend Ryota’s father is really funny. He always makes me laugh. His mother is very nice and always makes me feel welcome in their home.
  6. I think kindness and generosity are important, as well as a sense of humour. These are all traits that make it easy to get along with someone. My parents are both kind and generous. My father thinks he has a good sense of humour but I don’t think he’s as funny as he thinks he is.
