  2. What did you do for your last birthday? Did you go anywhere? Did you do anything special? Tell the class about it.
  3. How are you different today than you were five years ago? Do you still look the same? Do you like the same things?
  4. Research Time! Ask your parents what life was like when they were your age. How was the world different? If you don’t want to ask your parents, you can ask someone else you know.
  5. If you could change something about your past, what would you change? Why?
  6. If you could time travel to any point in the past, where would you like to go? Why?

  1. I went to the park with my classmate, Reina. It was sunny but not too hot. We sat on the swings and talked. We had a good time.
  2. On my last birthday, I went to yakiniku with my family. We ate many different kinds of meat. I tried tongue for the first time. It was pretty good.
  3. Five years ago, I was shorter and I used to wear glasses. I think I still look the same but I’m taller and I wear contacts now. I like the same foods but I’m into different music now.
  4. When she was my age, my mother used to like to talk on the phone. Nobody had smartphones then and people used to talk to each other on the house phone.
  5. Last year, I did very badly on my English test. I would change it so I studied harder before the test and I got a much better score.
  6. I would like to go back to the Edo period. It was an age of artistic and intellectual development in Japan. I would like to see what life was like then.
