  2. Do you like this character? Why or why not?
  3. Research time! Go online and find a video game that is popular in another country. Is it an RPG, a shooter, a simulation, a sports game or an adventure game? If is none of these genres, please explain which genre it is. What is the game about?
  4. Have you ever played this game before? If so, is it popular in Japan as well? If not, would you like to play it?
  5. How often do you play video games? Tell the class how many hours a day or how many hours a week you play video games and which game or games you usually play. If you don’t play video games, why not?
  6. Imagine you were developing a video game. Which genre would your game be in? What would the object of the game be? What would you call your game?

  1. Mario, of course. He is probably the most famous video game character in Japan. He is in many video games doing many different activities. He can run fast, jump really high and smash things with his head.
  2. Not really. Mario games are fun but I like the other characters more than Mario.
  3. Minecraft. It’s a sandbox game where you can do anything. You can explore the world and build anything you can imagine.
  4. Yes, I have. It was popular in Japan for a while but I’m not sure now. I haven’t played it for quite a while.
  5. I play video games maybe twice a week, for one or two hours at a time. Recently, I’ve been playing the “Disney Tsum Tsum” game. It’s pretty addictive.
  6. I would make a puzzle game for smartphones. The object would be to solve a series of ten puzzles as fast as you can. I’d call it “Puzzle Panic”.
